Great Great Grandfather Otto Carisch

P.S. Just finished digging further into the records online and piecing the puzzle together...Otto Carisch, Born Sept 28 1789 in Sarn Graubunden Switzerland. Pastor of the Swiss Reformed Church in Poschiavo from 1825 -37 and founder of the school there.
I have confirmed that he was married to my Great Great Grandmother, Maria Mini and is therefore my Great Great Grandfather.
I was right to think that there was a resemblance to Mum. Although we didn't find my Grandfather's burial place, I think the trip to Poschiavo was an amazing success. Not everyday one finds a picture of an ancestor from so long ago.
We have more digging to find out more about this man and our family. A return trip to Switzerland may be in order.....
To be continued??

Home!

Well I've been told to finish the blog as certain people are wondering if we actually are home!!
The journey from San Francisco to home was around 40 hours total...Peter threatening to sack his travel agent along the way.
San Fran to LA with an 8 hour layover...then to Auckland with a planned four hour that extended to 6 due to fog. Onwards to Melbourne (this time upgraded to Business....nice) Another 2 hours to wander the airport then home. Thanks to Blair for the airport pick up and the lovely homecoming to a beautiful clean house.
We sat and talked for a couple of hours, unpacked a few presents then hit the sack around 11pm.
Sunday, we woke as fresh as daisies...no jetlag at all. Monday 8am....melting chocolate and away we go!
We have paid a deposit on another Cruise West cruise so we have an incentive to work hard and save for the next one.
What we have learned
1. Don't pack too much!
2. No one notices if you wear the same clothes on alternate days....especially if you move cities.
3. You don't sweat if on a cruise to Alaska.
4. No one notices clothes not ironed.
5. If you have hat hair...so does everyone else...so who needs a hairdryer?
6. You don't have to eat everything on offer.
7. This is a good one...it worked more times than not....select seats A and C or D and F with a seat in between then ask again at check in. We got a free seat between us most of the time. GREAT.

Once again...thanks to all our family and friends for the loan of all the items that helped us along the way...especially to Anne for the computer for allowing us to keep in touch with family and friends.

THE END!
